How to use this tool
- Paste your data set as numbers separated by spaces, commas, or line breaks.
- Review the mean, median, mode, and spread measures like range and IQR.
- Use the standard deviation and variance outputs for quick statistical summaries.
Standard deviation calculator for quick checks
- Instantly compute population and sample standard deviation from raw data.
- Compare variability between data sets using variance and IQR.
- Use this standard deviation calculator to double‑check exam or homework answers.
What this descriptive statistics tool shows
- Mean, median, mode, minimum, maximum, range, and quartiles.
- Population and sample variance and standard deviation.
- Five‑number summary for box‑plots: min, Q1, median, Q3, max.
FAQ
- Does this use sample or population standard deviation?
- It calculates both. Population standard deviation divides by n, while sample standard deviation divides by n − 1.
- How are quartiles and the box‑plot summary computed?
- The data are sorted, the median is taken as Q2, and Q1/Q3 are medians of the lower and upper halves respectively. This is a common textbook convention for basic statistics.
- What happens if all values are unique?
- If every value appears only once, there is no repeated mode. The calculator will show 'No repeated mode' in that case.
