How to use this tool

  1. Paste your data set as numbers separated by spaces, commas, or line breaks.
  2. Review the mean, median, mode, and spread measures like range and IQR.
  3. Use the standard deviation and variance outputs for quick statistical summaries.

Standard deviation calculator for quick checks

  • Instantly compute population and sample standard deviation from raw data.
  • Compare variability between data sets using variance and IQR.
  • Use this standard deviation calculator to double‑check exam or homework answers.

What this descriptive statistics tool shows

  • Mean, median, mode, minimum, maximum, range, and quartiles.
  • Population and sample variance and standard deviation.
  • Five‑number summary for box‑plots: min, Q1, median, Q3, max.

FAQ

Does this use sample or population standard deviation?
It calculates both. Population standard deviation divides by n, while sample standard deviation divides by n − 1.
How are quartiles and the box‑plot summary computed?
The data are sorted, the median is taken as Q2, and Q1/Q3 are medians of the lower and upper halves respectively. This is a common textbook convention for basic statistics.
What happens if all values are unique?
If every value appears only once, there is no repeated mode. The calculator will show 'No repeated mode' in that case.
